Make plan for upgrade home network

Current Network Setups

  1. KT internet - 100mbps (upgradable)
  2. Netgear Nighthawk SX10 Switch (10G 2 ports, 1G 8 ports)
    - product page is gone from website
  3. Devices
    - Gaming PC (Realtek Dragon RTL8125BG / 2.5G)
    - Streaming PC (Intel I225-V / 2.5G)
    - Server PC (Intel X550-T1 / 10G)
    - Wireless (Netgear Nighthawk x4s / 1G, wifi 5)
    - Nintendo Switch with Dock (RJ45)

Goal

  • Cost Effective
  • 10G ready for ethernet
  • Wired 1G+ for intranet
  • Wifi 7
  • Privacy Protection through VPN

Software Requirements

  1. pfsense
  2. VPN (PIA or AdguardVPN)
  3. NAS (TrueNAS)

extra. ExitLag for gaming

Hardware Requirements

Router PC

not sure I'd use KT internet 10gbps or Starlink for low lag,
Router PC needs

  • 2 of 10Gbps RJ45 port
Intel® Ethernet Controller X550-AT2 - Product Specifications | Intel
Intel® Ethernet Controller X550-AT2 quick reference with specifications, features, and technologies.

PCI-E LAN for wired connection

  • Hosting wifi 7 in room
Intel® Wi-Fi 7 BE200 Product Specifications
Intel® Wi-Fi 7 BE200 quick reference guide including specifications, features, pricing, compatibility, design documentation, ordering codes, spec codes and more.

WLAN for wireless connection / PCI-E type or M.2 Type depend on motherboard size

Cards with above can found on aliexpress and etc.

Install pfsense and apply VPN on router PC, one port for Ethernet and another for intranet

wifi provide VPN for wireless devices like phone*, tablet and laptop.

* Mobile phone may use VPN by itself. It might not necessary.

NAS PC - Currently Minecraft Server

NAS through intranet / Game server for ethernet

Not sure it's possible, but lot motherboards has 2 RJ45 ports nowadays.
It might work by whitelist or something

Other Devices

No need to configure.

Just do not override DNS or VPN.

To Solve...

  • Ping problem with Gaming PC

May solve by second connection to internet, route game packet direct to internet
but i'm not programmer, need research

  • Combine Router - NAS - Minecraft Server in 1 PC

Router and NAS doesn't need full power of Desktop level CPU.
But minecraft server takes lot of CPU resources. Need some calculations.
